Gaining first-hand experience in the industrial environment has become part of the international learning journey of Wahhab Awaludin, a student of the Software Engineering Technology (TRPL) Study Program, and Raden Roro Wyne Ananda Desideria, a student of the Electrical Engineering Technology (TRE) Study Program, Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Through a collaboration with Prof. Chusou Yang and REC Technology Corporation, a company specializing in electronic devices for the automotive industry, both students participated in a two-month program in Taiwan from September 1 to October 31.
Exploring AI and Automation in Industry
During the program, Wahhab focused on exploring Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automation, with an emphasis on understanding how these technologies can support industrial processes and operational needs. The experience provided an opportunity to learn how technology can be applied to develop solutions that are more effective and efficient, while gaining a deeper understanding of real-world industrial challenges. Rather than focusing solely on completing a project, the program also encouraged Wahhab to learn directly from engineers and industry professionals, strengthen his technical skills, and observe how emerging technologies are implemented in a professional environment.
Learning Directly from the Professional Environment
Being immersed in an industrial setting offered a learning experience beyond the classroom. Through direct interaction with professionals, students gained insights into the importance of collaboration, problem-solving, technical expertise, and adaptability in developing technology-based solutions. With guidance from Prof. Chusou Yang and support from the REC team, the program provides students with an opportunity to broaden their perspectives on technological development while gaining valuable preparation for their future careers.

This program contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by providing students with experiential learning opportunities and opportunities to develop professional competencies in an international environment. The exploration of AI and Automation also aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, particularly through the application of technology and innovation to support industrial development. Furthermore, the collaboration between higher education and industry across countries reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, promoting knowledge exchange, collaboration, and capacity building.
