The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is encouraging higher education institutions to continuously adapt their curricula to meet the demands of future technology and industry. This became one of the research focuses explored by Annisa Mutia Rahman, a student of the Software Engineering Technology (TRPL) Study Program, Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada, through the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP).

Through this international research internship program, Annisa was involved in a research project examining the future direction of AI education in higher education and technical institutions. The research was a collaborative initiative involving academics from India and Taiwan, aiming to combine the strengths of institutions from both countries to develop engineering curricula that are more innovative and relevant to future industry needs.

🔬 Exploring the Readiness of AI Curricula

As part of the project, Annisa focused on curriculum auditing, analyzing the content and relevance of existing curricula against competencies needed in the future. Her responsibilities included reviewing various course syllabi, systematically coding curriculum data, and evaluating learning materials based on competencies such as AI, data processing, smart manufacturing, digital twins, robotics, and cybersecurity. Annisa also participated in an experiment comparing analysis conducted by human coders with AI-assisted approaches. This experience brought together data analysis skills and the application of AI in academic research.

🌏 Learning Through International Research

Being involved in a cross-country research project provided Annisa with valuable experience in understanding how technology and education can evolve together. Her work contributed to the preparation of a cross-country curriculum audit report and the development of AI-based learning modules through a Responsible AI Governance Framework. The experience also provided an opportunity for Annisa to strengthen her skills in research, critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving within an international academic environment.

🌱 Contributing to Education and Innovation

Annisa’s involvement in the TEEP program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through the development of education that is responsive to technological advancements and future competency needs. Research on AI curricula also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by promoting innovation and preparing human resources to navigate technological developments. Meanwhile, collaboration among academics from different countries reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through knowledge exchange and international cooperation.
