The development of digital technology continues to create opportunities for students to combine creativity, technology, and the creative process. This opportunity was embraced by Deandra Santoso, a student of the Software Engineering Technology (TRPL) Study Program, Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada, through the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) at Da-Yeh University, Taiwan.
Held over three months, from August 30 to November 30, Deandra participated in a project-based academic program under the guidance of Professor Chen Wei Sheng. The program focused on developing 3D art, with outputs ranging from digital art to physical products created through 3D printing.
🎨 From Idea Exploration to 3D Printing
Throughout the program, Deandra was involved in the entire 3D artwork development process. The process began with reference gathering, idea and concept exploration, and moodboard creation as the foundation for developing the artwork. The next stage involved designing shapes and characters, which were then brought to life through 3D modeling. After completing the model, Deandra carried out refinement and texturing to enhance the visual details according to the established concept. The process did not stop at digital artwork. The completed models were prepared for 3D printing, transforming digitally created ideas into tangible physical products. Each stage received direct guidance and evaluation from Professor Chen Wei Sheng. Through several rounds of revision and refinement, Deandra gained valuable experience in developing a creative concept into a finished work ready for presentation and production.
🌏 Developing Creativity through International Experience
The TEEP experience provided Deandra with an opportunity to learn in an international academic environment while expanding his understanding of 3D art, digital modeling, and digital fabrication. The process also strengthened skills in creative thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to receive and apply feedback throughout the development process.
🌱 Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals
Deandra’s participation in the TEEP program contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education through project-based learning and competency development in an international academic environment. The use of 3D modeling and 3D printing to produce creative works also aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, particularly in promoting innovation and the use of digital technology in creative and production processes.
